This report was received from Harris and Edwin
Goodwin, James Adams Health Care Center, Tegucigalpa, Honduras, C.A. (That is
the name of the clinic that is within the compound of Baxter Institute of
Biblical and Cultural Studies.)
The year 2000
is rapidly coming to a close and 2001 will be upon us, if God so wills.
As we think about this year, the first thought that comes to mind is that as a
result of this ministry 195 persons have been led to Christ and
baptized since January. Although we care for the sick, the naked and
destitute of daily food, we believe that our faith, working together with our
works had an impact on these who accepted Christ as their King and Savior.
Through November of
this year, 4,995 patients received dental care. The brigades
traveled to schools, the prisons, and isolated villages, as well as working in
our J.M.A. Clinic.
A total of 12,811
people received medical care and medicines. Many patients were treated
in isolated villages in distant mountains and on the seashore. Doctors,
nurse practitioners, nurses, lab technicians, and others in the medical
profession worked in local and distant brigades.
The newly opened eye
clinic has served 536 patients with 40 cataract surgeries.
Dr. Benny McDaniel is the heart of this effort.
A total of 157
malnourished children are receiving medical and dental care, as well as food
supplements and vitamins. One child was so far advanced that we couldn't
save it. The mothers are being trained as seamstresses and cooks so that
they can earn a living for their children. The fathers have abandoned
these mothers and their children and Honduras has no public assistance for the
poor.
Houses were built
for 30 families, who lost their house as hurricane victims.
Thousands were taught about Christ through massive distribution of La Voz
Eterna -- a Gospel publication and Gospel tracts. Our major focus must
be on the spiritual needs and this we will continue to do.
You have played a
major part in this work of the Lord's church. We're honored to have you
as patrons and we wish you a joyful holiday season with your loved ones.
We pray that you will continue working and praying with us to alleviate human
suffering and ignorance.
Baxter Institute
In its 35 years of existence, nearly six hundred have studied in Baxter's
resident program. Two hundred-seventy-six have fulfilled all the requirements of
a resident program and have graduated to serve Christ and His church in the
fifteen countries from which they came.
Another 550 are actively studying in the extension program, from which 345
have graduated - more than 200 in Cuba alone.
Baxter graduates are actively preaching and teaching the gospel in most of
the Spanish-speaking nations of the world. They have established hundreds of
churches and baptized thousands into Christ. Some are active in Christian
schools and health organizations, as well as other areas of Christian service.
