BRING A FRIEND!

On May 21st we are encouraging you to do all you can to bring a friend with you to Bible study and worship.   I believe we all realize the importance of inviting others to be with us.  I also believe we know we ought to always be reaching out to those we know to influence them for Christ.  The people we are most likely to win for Jesus are those with whom we have a relationship.  However, for some reason we do not do as we know we should.

One excuse we often give is the fear of rejection.  We are afraid the person we invite to worship, or to study God's word, will say no.  We fear this rejection of our offer may mean the end of our friendship.  Because of this excuse we often never get around to giving our friend an invitation.  I suppose a good question for us to ask ourselves in these situations is, are we really being a friend to this person?

I believe we can overcome our fears, and ex example from the Old Testament may serve as an encouragement.  In the days of Samuel the people of Israel came to him and said they did not want his sons to be judges over them.  Instead, they wanted a king, so they could be like all the nations around them.  As a result of their request Samuel felt rejected.  God them spoke to Samuel and told them this. "Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee; for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them." (1 Samuel 8:7)  Samuel felt as if he had been rejected, but the one from whom the people had truly turned away was God.  As we do our best to invite others to study with us, or to come to worship with us, when we do receive a "no" we need to remember they are not rejecting us, but God.

Satan uses fears to keep us from doing what we ought.  Let's determine to never let the fear of rejection keep us from trying to lead souls to Christ.

See You In Bible Class Sunday,
Bobby O’Dell

TAFT TALK
We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

YOUTH BOARD
Everyone make sure that you check the youth board for things that will be coming up this summer. There are many events that we have scheduled and you will need to make sure that you incorporate them into your schedules. We will be doing a lot of traveling (big surprise, huh?), and we need as many of you to go on whatever you can so that we can do some great mission work and spread the Good News. Check the board and see Taft and Meleia with any questions that you might have.

GIRLS DEVOTIONAL
The girls devotional will be May 9th at the Maxwell home. Bethany Wilson is scheduled to be the speaker. Make sure that you invite your friends. The van will leave at the regular time. This will be the last girls devotional before the summer begins, so make sure that you do your best to clear your schedules and be there.

TENT MEETING ACTION:
The tent meeting is for all ages. We are going to make a special effort to get everyone that we know to come, right? Let’s make sure that the youth do their part in getting visitors here on our property to hear Stan Butt bring it and Josh Wyatt lead us in singing again this year. I cannot wait for this event, it is always so awesome. Pray, pray, pray for this event!!!

Much Love,
T

EDIFICATION
FROM OUR
ELDERS

"Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." (2 Tim. 2:15) If we learn and keep the commandments of God, we can be assured of and eternal home in heaven.

A good way of studying the word of God is to be an active participant in a Bible class. We at Woodland Hills have this opportunity each Sunday, Tuesday morning and Wednesday night.

Janice Doerflein serves as director of education for our children’s classes. Janice, a professional teacher, does an excellent job in this position. If you need her for something, check the resource room, more than likely you will find her there busy at work.

Selecting teachers, class books, editing the materials and keeping the resource room supplied is only a part of the many activities. We are blessed with many excellent teachers and volunteers to assist in this very important work. A special thanks to each of you.

John Miller is the director of education for our adult classes. He is active in selecting the subject matter to be taught and recruits the teachers for each class. He is a good teacher as well, taking his turn in the rotation process. John serves on several other committees. Thank you for a job well done.

The Wednesday night class taught by Bobby O’Dell is excellent. Bobby is teaching a series on Back To The Bible. This class is designed to help us teach others. The class gets better each week.

Bobby also teaches a class on Tuesday mornings. This has been an in-depth study of the book of Matthew. An excellent study enjoyed by all. Thank you Bobby for the great work you are doing.

A special thanks to Taft, Meleia and their helpers for the best teen class you will find anywhere. This youth group is an inspiration to all. Keep up the good work.

These Bible classes open to all are designed for our learning, spiritual growth and encouragement.

May God bless each one of us as we come together to study His word.

For the Elders, Charles Mars

A TENT MEETING DOES MANY THINGS FOR US!

1. It makes us appreciate the gospel even more than we formerly did.

2. It helps us to understand the urgency of the task of saving the souls of man, because we are reminded of that task continuously throughout the meeting.

3. We actually become burdened with the thought of lost people around us and begin praying about it.

4. It opens our eyes to the good that can be done in such an effort as we see people respond to the invitation of Jesus.

5. Very definitely, we do realize the power of God’s word.

6. It builds a new fire, or helps to rekindle an old flame in the eyes of Christians.

7. It makes an impact upon the entire community as they see so many putting forth an effort to devote so much time to gospel preaching.

8. It encourages the local preacher to do more effective work among the people with whom he associates, for he realizes the spiritual tempo is higher at the close of a meeting than it is normally.

9. It encourages an evangelist to see people concerned about godly living, and it is a reward to him to know that he had been instrumental in leading people to the Shepherd of their souls.

10. Most of all, it glorifies the Father who is in heaven. He sees his people at their best, working for his cause.
