"OH TO BE LIKE THEE"
It is in 1 Peter 2:21 that we read "For even hereunto were ye
called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye
should follow his steps." This same idea was expressed in a song we often
sing:
Oh to be like Thee! Blessed Redeemer;
This is my constant longing and prayer;
Gladly I'll forfeit all of earth's treasures,
Jesus, Thy perfect like ness to wear.
Songs like that certainly set forth a worthwhile goal for which
to strive. To be able to say "Oh to be like Thee" means there are certain
things we are going to be interested in doing right.
First we must LIVE right. Titus 2:12 reminds
us of this by saying, "Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts,
we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world."
Satan is trying everything in his power to get you and I not to do that (1 Peter
5:8). To be like the Christ we must live right.
Second we must TALK right. In our world it
has almost become an art for people to see how suggestive they can be with their
speech. The Bible tells us in numerous places how we ought to speak.
"Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy
sight, O Lord." (Psalm 19:14) To be able to live the words "Oh to be like
Thee" we must give attention to talking right.
Third we must THINK right. Philippians 4:8
reminds us how important the thought process is; "Finally brethren, whatsoever
things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just,
whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are
of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on
these things." When people live filthy lives it is because they think
about filthy things.
Fourth we must DO right. Most are familiar
with the golden rule in Matthew 7:12 Jesus made this statement: "Therefore all
things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them; for
this is the law and the prophets." What we say usually will not carry as
must weight as what we do.
Fifth we must DIE right. In Revelation 14:13
the Bible says "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea,
saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do
follow them." Notice that it did not say that all are blessed - it puts a
qualification on it. You can't be blessed in death unless you're in the
Lord in life.
See You In Bible Class,

TAFT TALK
We are more than conquerors through Him who loved
us.
EVANGELISM UNIVERSITY
We took 26 to Evangelism University in Savannah, TN. The theme this
year for EU was "No Excuses." Our group did very well and learned many
things from the different classes that they were able to pick from about
outreach and daily living. We stayed at my aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs.
Randall Deaton’s home in Adamsville. They are always great hosts for us.
Our group loves staying with them and visiting with their family. Bud
Thomas defeated Nate Renner (defending champion) in the
annual basketball show-down. Both guys were excellent sports and it was
a lot of fun. There were over 1,700 in attendance at Evangelism
University. The Savannah and Adamsville congregations are to be
commended for the excellent weekend that they put on every year.
DEVOTIONAL
The devotional for the month of January will be on the 21st at
the home of Carla, Max and Alex Maxwell. Bud Thomas and Alex Maxwell
(2 of our youth reps) were in charge of planning this devotional. Nate Renner
will be the speaker. Guys bring drinks and girls bring desserts. It will be
following our p.m. services.
SATURDAY NIGHT "FIVE"
It is hard to believe that this year will be the fifth annual Saturday Night
"Five." It will be on Saturday night (of course), January 27th. Doors
will open at 6:00. Bring $5.
SENIOR LADIES TEA
The date for the Senior Ladies Tea is Sunday, February 4th. It
will be at the home of Wayne and Sharon Close. The tea will begin at 3:30 and
will end at 5:30. Girls, make sure you get with Meleia to see what you
can bring. This is a very special event that many people enjoy.
GATLINBURG
The dates for the Gatlinburg trip are February 16-19. The cost and signup
sheet will be posted on my door. The first 30 to sign up and PAY will be
guaranteed a spot. Anyone after the first 30 will go on a waiting list. Listen

THANK YOU
Thank you for the beautiful basket of red carnations, purple
iris, and yellow daisies (which is my favorite flower). We are
grateful for all the prayers, cards, and food, but we want to thank
especially everyone who came to the visitation/funeral. It meant
more than words can express.
Elaine, Children & Grandchildren
Dear Church family,
Please accept this heartfelt "Thank You" for all the kind
thoughts and prayers that were made on my mother’s behalf over the
past four years while she was battling bone cancer. While her death
has left a gaping hole in the heart of my family, we know she is now
pain-free and in a much better place with a much larger family. The
poinsettia and evergreen arrangement that was sent to the funeral on
behalf of the congregation was very pretty and much
appreciated. Also, let me thank those of you who have sent cards to
me personally and have given memorials in my mother’s honor. I can
not adequately express just how much these have meant to me and my
family. It’s hard for me to imagine how people survive who do not
have such a loving church family as we are blessed to have here at
Woodland Hills. Please continue to keep us in your prayers.
In Christ,
Debbie Blasingame
