GENE AND MARY PARKER
NEWSLETTER FOR APRIL 2004
DONETSK, UKRAINE

Dear Supporters, Friends and Family,

We arrived back in Donetsk March 25. Since then we have see snow twice, then spring with the blooming of the apricot and cherry trees which is a sight to behold. There are so many of the trees the city literally turns white. Today is May 3 and the third of the traditional May 1st holidays. Then next weekend will be the traditional celebration of victory over the Germans in WWII.

May has seen some changes in the church here. Three of our members left to go to the Word of Life (Pentacostal) church. Like all over the world some after learning the truth want more _expression of emotion which they find in the alleged speaking in tongues dancing to loud music etc. As Paul said in 2 Tim 4 some will turn away their ears from the truth and turn to fables. But we have two planning to be baptized this week and several more coming regularly so things will soon change for the better. We obtained

a copy of the movie “The Passion of Christ” and showed it at both Proletarski and Budyonnivski with large crowds at both. Time will tell what the eventual results will be.

One thing that is so encouraging is to see the increase in attendance on Sunday and Wednesday evenings. Last night we had more than thirty five and last Wednesday evening we had about 40 for the monthly prayer and singing. To me this translates to an increase of spiritual growth.

This past weekend we enjoyed the visit of Dennis and Diana Knight from Deneperpetorosvk where they have been missionaries for the past four years. They worked with us here for 2 or 3 years before that.

Before coming back this year we expressed our desire to add a second story to our building. But after further investigation, it seems the building is not well enough constructed to bear the weight of a second story. So our plan now is to add a new roof and improve the front of the building. We are including a computer designed picture of how it will look. We have $25,000 of the $30,000 it will cost to do the roof, front and sides, the construction firm we have been dealing with is willing to wait a year on the final $5,000. Then we will need another $3,000 to finish the back next year or sometime later. All of this seems to be in our reach. We will need some help with this, so if you can and want to help with this please send a contribution to the NorthRidge Church of Christ, P.O. Box 152, Mt. Pleasant, Texas 75456. Mark it Ukraine Building Fund.

Words seem so inadequate to express our love and appreciation to all of you. God has so richly blessed us with your participation in our work here. We just pray it will all go to the glory of Him, His Son, and His church.

Our love to all, Gene and Mary
